DEL started his writing career in 1972 writing under the alias ALPO 56 in the Williamsburg section of Brooklyn. He later moved to Delancey Street on Manhattan's Lower East Side. He mainly wrote on the J, M LL and RR lines for the Prisoners of Graffiti crew. He also wrote for one of the subway's most prestigious crews, The Fabulous Five. He became well known for writing his signature catch phrase "DEL WAZ HERE" on many train stations. In early 1978 DEL reduced the amount of time he spent writing and eventually quit. Then he made a come back in 1980 with a fellow old school writer named MOOSE 106. During this time DEL devoted more of his time to hitting trains from the IRT division. DEL painted many cars with MOOSE 106 and writers like SEEN UA and TKID 170.
